El Calafate located in the south of Argentina (3 hours by plane from the city of Buenos Aires) in the province of Santa Cruz, bordering the southwest part of the Lago Argentino. Its name comes from a little bush with yellow flowers very common in Patagonia, with dark blue berries: the calafate (Berberis buxifolia). El Calafate attracts tourists from all over the world and has bloomed and developed within the last 8 years, since the International Airport of El Calafate started its operations, turning into an important hub to visit different destinations and attractions like El Chalten or the wWorldwide known Perito Moreno Glaicer. Don’t be surprise if you may get into a close encounter with Pumas, Foxes, Ñandues, Llamas , Condors, Eagles among others since El Calafate is surrounded by National Parks and Reserves. El Calafate, although worldwide known for the Perito Moreno Glacier, is more than just Glaciers... it offers a wide range of attractions and highlights. Also it is very easy to connect and combine this destinations with other areas like: El Chalten, Laguna del Desierto, Ushuaia, Torres del Paine (Chile), San Carlos de Bariloche... just to name a few. The views are something spectacular and that will keep you with your mouth open all day long.
