EL CHALTEN
A FULL DAY IN PARADISE

El Chalten. located 3 hours by regular bus from the city of El Calafate. This is an option that you may consider as a day tour or even better if you have the time, and overnight destination. At the small town of El Chalten, you will find a main road that will lead you to the beginning of the trails of the National Park. An experience that will transport you into a fairy tail, where landscape seems like painted by hand, where you can feel the humidity of the forest and the smell of the native vegetation. A true encounter with nature, that should not take your for surprise. Pumas, among other local animals will come to you at the least expected moment.

El Chalten is a hidden secret and we should all keep it that way... !!!

> DESCRIPTION
This is a tour on your own. I did it las April 2009 and thought I have found something I wanted to share with all of you. The tour begins at 07.20 AM at the bus station of El Calafate, sharply 10 minutes before the bus scheduled departure. The trip to El Chalten is 3 hs, but believe me you will find it hard to fall asleep... since you wont want to miss the spectacular views. The bus does a technical stop at a small and picturesque ranch for us to get coffee and some pastries.

Once at El Chalten, you are on your own, and that is the best thing that could have ever happened to you. My advise is to do the Trail to El Fitz Roy, by the Capri Lake. This is a convenient trail for the time you will have before departure that will allow you to see the lagoons, the Fitz Roy and the Viedma Glacier. WARNING !!! be always aware of the signs... since it is very easy to get lost. Also bring your own water and food. since there is nothing within the limits of the National Park.

The treat of the afternoon, once you finish walking through the trails of the National Park, and you are cold and you feet hurt as hell... Go for Lunch to LA CERVECERIA Restaurant. There not only the have the best soups and empanadas, but also the do brew their own blonde and dark beer. Believe me you wont regret it.

For those that love trekking, I would suggest to stay overnight for a better experience.
