CARLOS MELIA • MENDOZA • BEEN THERE DONE THAT
Mendoza means “ Cold Mountain “. It is located in the northern-central part of the province of same name, in a region of foothills and high plains, on the eastern side of the Andes. The city is a frequent stopover for climbers on their way to Aconcagua, (the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere) and for Adventure Travelers interested in mountaineering, hiking, horseback riding, rafting and other sports. In the winter skiers come to the city for its easy access to the Andes.
The city is centered around Plaza Independencia (Independence Plaza) with Avenida Sarmiento running through its center east-west, with the east side pedestrianized (peatonal). The San Martin Park is the lungs of the city which withholds the Cerro La Gloria and the monument to Ejercito de los Andes.
Two of the main industries of the Mendoza area are Wine making and Olive Oil production. The yearly Vintage and the parallel Gay Vintage are one of the most relevant attractions, related to this industry, that take place every March.
CM • Mendoza is a great destination for many reasons... it caters to many type of travelers looking for different attractions. Those interested in the Wine business or degustation, the Alternative Sports, the Outdoors, the Gourmet Experience, the Gambling or just the relaxation. During my time there, believe me I have enjoyed them all. Mendoza is a quick gateway from Buenos Aries, only 1 hour and 40 minutes away, and the main gate to discover the North Region of Argentina.
