Airstream Rooftop Trailer Park at The Grand Daddy Hotel  |  Cape Town, South Africa  |  Have you ever dreamt of camping on the rooftop of a hotel, instead of spending the night in a suite. Well The Grand Daddy Hotel in South Africa has managed to combine both. Full hotel service with you own Airstream Trailer on the Rooftop. Of course no camping is complete without drinks, and conveniently enough the Rooftop bar is right out your door. One of those weird unique experiences that you may try while in Cape Town.

There’s nothing ordinary about going all the way to the United States of America to source seven vintage Airstream trailers then hauling them back across the Atlantic and hoisting them onto the roof of an urban hotel. Then again, there’s nothing ordinary about the Grand Daddy. Take the Daddy’s vintage elevator to their rooftop location in Long Street and soak in the alluring outline of Table Mountain as reflected in the polished aluminium of the American Dream. The seven trailers were designed according to fantastical themes, revamped by seven local creatives and parked in a neat garden, complete with US Postal Service mailboxes.
I stayed over 8 years ago at the now The Grand Daddy hotel, then former Metropole Hotel, one of the first ever full service gay oriented hotels in the world. I have the best memories of those times. A beautiful classy hotel, an the amazing Veranda Restaurant and the hip and trendy M Bar with the Versace sofas. Well now all that is gone, and the new hotel, catering to a whole different demographic, looks old and a bit rundown, but if you are looking for new unique experiences, then a one night stay at the Airstream Rooftop Trailer Park won’t disappoint you at all.
