Experiencing magical Ravello by no other than Belmond Hotel Caruso | Ravello, Amalfi Coast, Italy | Following the footsteps of Richard Wagner, being the very end of my five days exploring the Amalfi Coast, I felt and thought to end it at the very lovely, very quiet and charming town of Ravello. UNESCO World Heritage Site, this resort town, is set 365 meters above the Tyrrhenian Sea by Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Home to iconic cliffside gardens and magnificent panoramic views. You can also read more tips and recommendations by checking and following me on Instagram to see all my past-current-future posts and experiences while in Italy #GPSCarlosMeliaITALY.

Ravello, might be as well, the most cultural spot into the Amalfi Coas. served historically as a destination for artists, musicians, and writers. Among them Richard Wagner, who came to Ravello and signed the guestbook of his local hotel with the words “The magical garden of Klingsor is found” suggesting that it was in Ravello he found the inspiration for his Parsifal.

Some of its hihlights are, the Duomo Cathedral of Ravello, the 13th-century, Moorish-style Villa Rufolo offering far-reaching views from its terraced gardens, and hosts indoor and outdoor concerts during the popular summertime Ravello Festival. Villa Cimbrone, a medieval-style estate perched on a steep outcrop, is surrounded by another celebrated garden.

If you are a hiker, you will be blown away by the many options and the breathtaking panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the surrounding mountains, from this charming UNESCO World Heritage Site town. There is an ancient legend, still recounted by tour guides in Salerno and Amalfi, that it was to Ravello, with its scenic view of the Mediterranean and the dramatic Amalfi coastline, that Satan transported Jesus during His second temptation to show the beauty of the world’s kingdoms. (Luke 4: 5-8)

My personal higlight, was my stay and overall experience at the marvelous, chic and quiet Belmond Hotel Caruso. Both the hotel and their indoor and outdoors restaurants will become the main center and destination of your stay. I was there -unfortunately very briefly – but was able to enjoy the property very much indeed. Located in Piazza San Giovanni del  Toro, steps away from the center of Ravello.

A former 11th century palace set on cliffs beside the Amalfi Coast, Belmond Hotel Caruso seems to drift on a ‘balcony’ above the Mediterranean Sea. It is a triumph of the restorer’s skill. Its ancient walls and fresco-covered ceilings have been carefully preserved to make it a work of art in itself. Stroll through the terraced gardens or lounge beside the stunning infinity pool. From Belmond Hotel Caruso, Ravello is yours to explore. Take a boat trip to Positano and discover Sorrento or Roman Pompeii. Wherever you turn, both inside the hotel and out, a world of heritage, culture and beauty awaits. Complimentary daily boat tour, set off on our traditional wooden boat Ercole for an exciting trip around the beautiful Amalfi coast.

Elegant rooms with marble bathrooms in an 11th-century palace with 2 restaurants, 2 bars & a spa. I stayed at a very lovely Junior Suite, with spectacular views overlooking to Maiori and Minori.

Befitting one of Italy’s top luxury spa hotels, their spectacular infinity pool is an architectural masterpiece. Set at the highest point above the town of Ravello, it’s seemingly suspended in the clouds, providing an unparalleled vista and breathtaking views of the coastline below. As you relax in the gently heated water, concierge can bring you an iPod pre-loaded with your choice of music, a fresh fruit appetizer or an Evian vaporizer. Pure, unadulterated indulgence.

Lunch at the Belvedere Restaurant by the pool or terraces, with spectacular views, was one of my favorite things to do. I stronglyreccommend the Zuppa di Pesce. Although called a soup, it is actually more like a stew. perhaps the simplest and purest of all the fish soups in Italian cookery it is nothing more than a variety of seafood simmered briefly in a simple marinara sauce. But don’t let the simplicity fool you—the taste of this dish is incredible. Specially the taste of the remaining sauce in the bottom with a piece of bread.

Of course, I could not leave without a classic afternoon tea at the Cocktail and Piano Bar at Belmond Hotel Caruso, with live pianist performace. Magnificent frescoes from the 18th century.

Waking up was indeed very special as well. First zipping a cup of coffee at the privacy of my Junior Suite overlooking Maiori and Minori. Followed by breakfast at the lovely breakfast room.

After breakfast, I strongly recommend to explore the terraces of the property, over – yet another – cup of coffee, relaxing over the lovely views and the sound of Ravello waking up.

Right next to the iconic Belmond Hotel Caruso, you will find anothe lovely luxury hotel, the Palazzo Avino. Built originally for an Italian noble family and opened as a hotel in 1997, Palazzo Avino has been rated as one of the world’s finest hotels and boasts one-star Michelin dining. Elegant hotel with high-end seasonal eatery, 2 bars, a spa & beach access.

Casual lunch at Trattoria pizzeria Cumpa Cosimo was just perfect. Unlike many other dinning experiences I had during my time at the Amalfi Coast, it was very local, rustic, grewat Italian food and and very charismatic owner and Chef Netta Bottone, who tours the tables to ensure her clients are content. Her family has owned this cantina for more than 75 of its 300. Not only I tried her cooking, but also got plenty of love and kisses from her. ADORABLE.

Prior your visit, I strongly recommend to check the annual and seasonal Concerts Schedule by the Ravello Arts Council, to enjoy lovely indoor and outdoor live performances. For this you may visit: www.ravelloarts.org
