After 15 long hour flying from Buenos Aires to Madrid and then connection to Brussel….. plus a train from Brussel Centraal to Antwerpen Centraal, I am now seating in my bed at the Hotel Keyserlei.
I have not had much time or energy to walk around… but from what I have seen, I was quite AMAZED by the beauty of the Antwerpen Centraal Railway Station. The original station building was constructed between 1895 and 1905 as a replacement for the original terminus of the Brussels-Mechelen-Antwerp Railway.
The stone clad terminus buildings, with a vast dome above the waiting room hall were designed by Louis Delacenserie and the vast (185 metres long and 44 metres high) iron and glass trainshed by Clement van Bogaert. The viaduct into the station is also a notable structure designed by local architect Jan Van Asperen.
The train in less than 45 minutes the Airport of Brussels to Brussel Noord / Central or South, and from there you can connect to Antwerpen for only EUR 9.45. (picture of me on the train. ) Then off to Madrid ( Gay Pride and Mr Gay Spain ) + Venice + Verona. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends
