Belmond MAROMA Resort and Spa | Riviera Maya, Mexico | One of the best stays and travel experience I have had this 2013, was the three days I spent at the very lovely Belmond MAROMA Resort and Spa, approx. thirty minutes away from Cancun. And when I say away from Cancun, I mean it…. a total different exclusive sophisticated relaxing experience. Former private residence, set in deep jungle beside pristine white sands, this now Belmond Resort, is a magical Mayan escape. Only three hours away from New York City, it is yet, another perfect sunny luxury getaway from the US. As I always say, I have for many years been very exceptional about Mexico as a destination in full, but this years after my experiences in Riviera Nayarit and Riviera Maya, I have fully changed my mind.
Set among rustling palms and lush greenery, this is the ultimate tropical retreat, with suites and a private villa opening on to a spectacular talcum-white beach. Spend lazy days in ocean and poolside restaurants or stroll through flower-filled gardens where parrots and butterflies perch. Guests can explore Mayan heritage sites, dive in caverns or play tennis―and the world’s second largest coral reef is just metres from the resort’s beach. The Mayan-style Kinan Spa is a sanctuary of wellbeing, with a temazcal sauna and steam bath. Yoga classes are given on a rooftop with 360-degree views of the ocean and jungle. Private treatments can also be enjoyed in the Sian Nah suites.
I stayed at a lovely 01 Bedroom Oceanfront Suite, overlooking from both my living room and bedroom to the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over Maroma Beach. Recline on ultra-luxurious terraces with uninterrupted sea views. Bathe in your private plunge pool, or refresh under indoor and outdoor showers. Keep fit in your own air-conditioned fitness room. Ground-level suites feature exclusive spa areas right on the beach, while first-level suites El Restaurante with superb beach views, ave a second-floor terrace with expansive sea views.
Enjoy the best fresch flavors and delights from the Mayan Mexican region over breakfasts in heaven, lunches at El Restaurante with superb beach views, and private romantic dinners right on the white Maroma sands in sync with the soothing sounds of the waves at your feet. Of course transition during the day, over and over the long list of premium Tequilas and Mescals. The food was so exquisite, that I even dared to try very local dishes, like the dried grasshoppers. Of course a must is a stop by Freddy’s Tecquila and Ceviche Bar. This beachside spot offers the largest collection of tequila and mescals in the region. Discover the history of Mexico’s famous liquor and dine on the finest fresh-fish ceviche, sushi and sashimi.
Sunrises and sunsets, over white sanded Maroma Beach and the turquoise Caribbean Sea, are EVERYTHING. Seen from all points in the resort, but most special when in the privacy of or suite terrace. The Kinan Spa is an experience and destination itself, offering a range of Mayan treatments. Every part of the spa has been aligned with the stars to create a positive energy flow. Treatment rooms point east to west, representing day and night. Massage beds face east, symbolizing new beginnings. Must try is the Maya Temazcal, a truly magical experience. Performed at dusk, this ancient ceremony involves chants and meditation. Heated rocks are doused with herb-infused water to create an aromatic, healing steam. Aloe vera is then applied to nourish the skin. After the sun sets, plunge into the sea. You are left feeling refreshed and at peace.
Maroma Beach is without the doubt the main attraction. I must say that during my visit to the Riviera Maya, I stayed at several other properties, and none of them offer the beach product that Maroma Resort do. Warm turquoise clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, complimented by white sanded beaches. I think the photos just speak by themselves right.
The expert staff at Belmond Maroma Resort, go above and beyond to ensure your stay will be truly unforgettable and that you will always want to return for more. At least I will. Hotels and Resorts, this days need to go beyond the accommodation experience, and become part of the destination and the overall travel experience, and Maroma integrates fully. Both Erika and Heda, to whom I am very grateful for their professionalism and camaraderie, made sure that I would leave the Riviera Maya not only exploring and enjoying their resort, but they also took care of all my alternative activities, transfers and adventures such as: Mayan Archeological site of COBA, Swimming inside Cenotes, Swimming with Dolphins and Visit to the darling Tulum. I must also mentioned and thank Liz Perea Barrientos, PR at Riviera Maya Tourism for your company and insight on the destination.
A must try is the Traditional Cooking Master Class with the Chef of the Resort. One of the many activities you can experience and do, during your stay and visit to the very lovely Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa.
