Explore Phuket by Motorbike like a local | Phuket, Thailand | Today I needed to get away and experience the island beyond the limits of a classic traveler in Phuket, so I decided to hit the road on my own, with a map and on a rented motorbike. The day was just perfect for this, so I called the reception and asked them to book me a motorbike. A few minutes later and TBH 450 x day (USD 15) later, I was driving up and down the hills and beaches of Phuket, just like any other local.
I mean when they told me the price, and I made my numbers… it is a DEAL. !!! So I spent the whole day touring and exploring every little portion of the island I managed to get hold of, including Surin Beach, Kata Beach, Patong Beach, Kamala Beach, Karon and even Phuket Town. And on top of that I managed to be back in time at Pansea Beach, where I am staying, for the Loy Krathong celebrations. First time since I got to Phuket 3 nights ago, that I really feel like a local and in control of the island. So I strongly recommend renting your own motorbike and explore around.
I also stopped for some light lunch and a beer. I swear I only had one. Now here my friend and colleague Robert Sharp, posted a comments on my Facebook Wall, and he was absolutely right on the point. BE VERY CAREFUL when renting the motorbikes, most of the companies do not offer any type of insurance, and if anything might happen not only you will not be covered, but you will have to pay over TBH 52,000 (USD 1,670) on indemnization to the rental company, for any damage on the motorbike. So be aware of that. Carlos Melia Luxury Travel Curator – www.carlosmelia.com
