Salinas Grandes the White Dessert of Argentina |  Salta, Argentina  | An extensive Salt Dessert in the northern region of Argentina, 126 kilometers from Purmamarca and 190 kilometers from San Salvador de Jujuy in the limit between the provinces of Salta and Jujuy with a total extension of 212 square kilometers.
The Salinas are located close to the areas of La Poma (Salta) and Tumbaya (Jujuy). Separated from the Quebrada de Humahuaca ” Humahuaca’s Gorge “. by Sierra Chañi “Chañis Slope”.
Considered to be the third Salt Dessert in the world in extension, after the Uyuni (Bolivia) and Salar de Arizaro (Salta, Argentina).
The local Salt Artisans spend their say working and crafting their creations out of the blocks of Salt. They go through extreme temperature, and weather conditions, reason why you will see they are all covered in dark close that cover their whole body, face and head. Take a little souvenir to help them secure their everyday food on the table.
I was always very interested on visiting the Salinas Grandes… and to be honest they came to me by surprise while doing a (02 Days / 01 Night ) tour of Purmamarca and Quebrada de Humauaca, departing from Salta and ending in Jujuy to catch my flight back to Buenos Aires. Carlos Melia Luxury Travel Curator – www.carlosmelia.com
