Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque | Abu Dhabi, UAE | Taking advantage of my connecting flights in Abu Dhabi, 7 hours layover, and thanks to the courtesy of Rosewood Hotel Abu Dhabi and Arabian Adventures, I ventured to explore for the first time, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. First stop, the STUNNING Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, considered to be the key for worship in the country. For more insight on my Abu Dhabi experience check out my Instagram Photo Gallery on my recent visit.
A structure which unites the cultural diversity of Islamic world, the historical and modern values of architecture and art. The design of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque has been inspired by Persian, Mughal and Moorish mosque architecture. Has many special and unique elements: The carpet in the main prayer hall is considered to be the world’s largest carpet made by Iran’s Carpet Company. One of the seven imported chandeliers from the company Faustig with millions of Swarovski crystals, is the third largest in the world. The total construction cost was USD 545 million and it took from 1996 to 2007 to be finished.
The maosoleum of beloved Sheikh Zayed is located contiguos to the mosque. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, father founder of the UAE.
