The HONG in Hong Island just stunning | Koh Hong, Krabi, Thailand | So as I wrote yesterday, I spent my full morning Snorkeling in Koh Hong Island, only 30 minutes away from Phulay Bay in Krabi. Literally a paradise on earth, and supposed to be one of the top ten beaches in the world. Now what is the meaning of Koh Hong, you might want to know, same as I did… well our Long Tale Fisherman sailor had a big surprise for us, to show us the meaning of words live.
So this is how you arrive to the island, which only allows access by rented long tail boats, private yatchs or hotel transfers. The island is part of the Than Bok Khorani National Park, which controls the amount of hours each traveler can remain in the island, avoiding big crowds which indeed makes this island even more beautiful than it is.
Long Tale Boats are a regular way of transportation among tourist in Krabi and Phuket, allowing you to access to areas that you will not be able to get by road or even by fancy luxurious yachts. They are noisy and sailors can barely speak english, but they are fun, cheap and a classic in the area, so do not be shy or boring and try them. So after a 30 minutes transfer from the Ritz-Carlton Phulay Bay, we arrived into this paradise on earth, and got set up for snorkeling and/or just staying in the warm salty green clear waters of the Andaman Sea.
KOH in Thai means Island and HONG means room, therefore the Island of the Room. That is how the native Thais name this island, and after what I will show you on this video below, you will understand why.
A huge pool of fresh water coming from the Andaman Sea only during the High Tides. Very shallow that if I would have jumped into the water I would have have half of my body out of the water. During the Low Tides, this is a valley of sand and beautiful surrounding nature, with direct access to the sea. It is difficult to transmit how amazing this room is, all the people on the boat with me only managed to say over and over… MAGNIFICENT. !!!
